The Rapa Nui Automaton

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Have you ever wondered about the Mo’ai of Easter Island (or Rapa Nui, as it is known locally)? The Mo’ai are those big stone heads that Easter Island has become famous for. While any archaeologist worth his salt would tell you that the original Polynesian islanders were responsible for building the monoliths, there are a myriad of legends which suggest everything from the idea that the monoliths were actually statues dedicated to extra-terrestrial visitors, to the belief that the Mo’ai were built by some advanced and long lost oceanic culture. While most of these theories, in our opinion, simply belie an ethnocentrism which refuses to accept that Polynesian islanders were capable of such magnificent sculpture and engineering, this is a sketch of what, in some fantastic reality, the Mo’ai might have been. While the heads of these automatons have remained true to their original form, their mechanical bodies are decorated with stylized Polynesian patterns and designs. Perhaps the Mo’ai were responsible for building themselves…

“TexMex” on Display at the Water Colour Society

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

One of Nelli’s recent artworks, entitled “TexMex”, has recently been placed on exhibition at the Water Colour Society gallery in Fourways, Johannesburg.

The artwork is a 1 000 X 750 mm mixed media on canvas.

Although this artwork was completed by Nelli as a personal work, we do undertake private commissions, examples of which are available on our Personal Evolutions.

Otherworld Rider

Friday, November 20th, 2009

This otherworldly mounted warrior was purposefully rendered without definite detail or facial expression. This is because we wanted the viewer to decide whether or not the rider is a force of good, a force of evil, or something in between. Regardless of her moral alignment, the low angle, ominous lighting, and terrible insect-like features of the mount certainly seem to suggest that the rider is a foreboding and dangerous presence.

InVolve (v.)

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

The process by which a client becomes more conscious of the corporate culture he or she belongs to through the development of an Integrated Corporate Artwork, culminating in the visual manifestation of that culture in the final art piece. Following his participation in the InVolve Session, Martin was more aware of the underlying corporate culture of his business, and as a result, was better able to harness and direct that culture to the companies benefit.

Glyph Audi TT

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Just came across this pic of our “Glyph TT” from an expo that took place a little while back. This is what happens when an Audi TT meets well executed vehicle branding. It’s always nice when others really admire our work…

Cerise

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Perhaps she’s an intergalactic mercenary, or a member of some badass rebel faction. Either way, Cerise is one spaced-aged gunslinger you don’t want to mess with. Her weapons are futuristic interpretations of modern day firearms (take note of the grenade launcher). Cerise’s multi-terrain outfit has been designed to protect her from the frigid temperatures of deep space, allow for maximum movement when she needs to use her impressive agility to take out bad guys, as well as to accentuate her, umm, celestial physique.
